EPW - John Bennett, 65 & 64 Cheapside, London, gold keyless pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement and helical hairspring, 53mm, heavy 18K gold original HC bearing London hallmarks for 1880, "E M" marking in cameo for casemaker Edward Matthews, initials to front and rear, signed gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial, SW-pin-set, capped spring detent escapement, free-sprung balance with helical hairspring and diamond endstone, possibly 16J, gilt mvt, s#17291 with matching serial number within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 93.2 dwt (144.9 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some areas of haze to gilt surfaces; virtually flawless dial with micro-fine scratch within seconds-register, some small bits of surface dirtiness; excellent-plus hands, minute with small amount of finish loss near tip; case shows ample wear, profuse micro-fine scratches, no dents or dings, reduced engraving detail, front hinge missing an end-cap; tight bow unevenly thinned at top, crown has lost its jacket (outer layer) and white metal core shows light wear; good glass crystal.
